Hunting: On Valuing Vulnerability

Dove or doe, I’m the girl
to feed at your feet;
you’re a creature now too,
a lion eating straw.
All is meadows here;
here, we’ll meld the will
of predator and prey.
After all, I’ve always
been one for stalking;
and you shouldn’t worry—
I’m won’t bite,
not your hollow hands,
and, when the wild
calls me to shed my skin,
to grow a pair of fangs
and sharpen my claws,
I won’t; I’ll stay soft.
In hunting, I’m armed
with all I need.
