Sweet Summer Afternoons

Artwork by Conrad Roset

I can taste the afternoon in my mouth,
Sweet flavours of apricot sunlight dripping from my chin.
This softness lives inside my mouth and
All over my body.

Sweet like a cascading orange peel
Leaning against a cold glass of Negroni
On a busy street in Portugal.

Now it’s the silky fragrance of jasmine flowers
That wrap and trap my mind into a sense of calm
Until I bring the flesh of orange to my lips,
And taste the sour on my tongue.

And now this is the sweetest moment,
You stick to me like honey from a bee,
You won’t let go of me and I’m onto you
For the longest afternoon of the year.
