Clarity
I said you were a glass of water
to his ocean
that he was vast and endless
breaking and drowning
a home and a graveyard,
at once the rip current
and the foamy caress,
he was both the lighthouse and the rocks.
But you were clarity
and all the world’s salt water
was not enough to quench my thirst—
you were simplicity and sustenance
and washed the sand from my skin.
