A Heart to Love, a Place to Grieve

Artwork by Pavlina Bargili

I ran like a lunatic
in fields of no mistakes
I drank the glasses
like thousands of apologies.
until
I stumbled and
poppies grew upon my tongue
the dark sky gathering them all
from where I was supposed to go.
Apart
in other lives we may have been
a peculiar encounter in a place
where me and you and you and me
deserve to be.
Never
should I ask for more than this
a heart to love, a place to grieve
other people that have lived
and now we share just one belief
until
we close all of our doors
with eyes and hearts together
in rain and sun and joy and love
we must outlive each other.
