To See or Not to See

It’s all just show. Penalva’s sculpture Petit Verre (Little Glass) is a shadow theater that intentionally dispenses with any contextual dimension. Everything twinkles, tootles and spins in place. The triviality of the images forces the viewer to come up with his own interpretation.

Gallerist Thomas Schulte thinks that this work is a metaphorical representation of João Penalva‘s complete oeuvre.
