Let The Art Guide You

When you think about house projects in Berlin you probably think about leftists clad in black hoodies, vegan BBQs, and political flags flying outside dilapidated buildings. But what happens when house project meets art? This Saturday you have the chance to find out. White Elephant Collective is presenting an exhibition called “Precarious” at P:142, an art project house located in Weissensee. International Berlin artists whose art you can see at the opening include some of our favorites: Diamantis SotiropoulosMadeleine Botet de Lacaze, and Sifis Lykakis.

Precarious. What does that word mean? Maybe a glass teetering on the edge of a table, half full of red wine, moving quickly back and forth (though you see it in slow motion) before it finally falls shattering onto the floor and staining your brand new white carpet!  How are you ever going to get that stain out? Or perhaps there is a tightrope walker, a man on wire, or better yet, a gymnast on a balance beam, post back tuck pushing her feet into the beam to hold on while we watch at home, wondering if she’ll stay on the beam or tumble away from Olympic gold.

A million things come to mind when you think of the word precarious: a spinning top, a child’s first bicycle ride, asking someone out on a first date, waiting for the final number you need so you can yell, “BINGO!” So what do our artists have in store for us?  We don’t quite know, but we expect, uncertainty, excitement, and anticipation to take us over. We’re getting butterflies in our stomach thinking about it already! Join us at the opening on Saturday.
