Gallery Weekend: What To Do On Sunday

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times––it was (and in fact still is) Gallery Weekend in Berlin. Although you might be finished with the free wine and mindless chit-chat (not to mention the good, the bad and the ugly of what there was on the walls), there’s still time to squeeze in a little more art. Today is about winding down from Gallery Weekend in the best possible way, and we’ve got the perfect Sunday lined up for you. From artist talks to relaxing walks, BAPS has it all.

HKW – Guided Tour: The Whole Earth With Anselm Franke – 3pm

From the local to the global, Gallery Weekend can be a great time to consider the world beyond Berlin’s art scene. And this Sunday, for one day only, Haus der Kulturen der Welt is offering guided tours of the first exhibition to explore “the history of the photograph of the ‘blue planet,’ and reflects in a comprehensive way the power of the Whole Earth Catalog, the analog predecessor of Google (Steve Jobs).”

Momentum  Talk: How to Collect and Show Video Art With Prof. Dr. Wulf Herzogenrath and more – 4pm

Collecting is not just the provenance of the frail and financially stable, art is available at almost every price range and collecting can be a great way to become involved in the contemporary art world. If you watch as many cat videos on youtube as I do, who knows, you might just be the next art world heavyweight––if you can channel that video-love into true collecting.

Neuer Berliner Kunstverein – Concert: Dangerpony – 8pm

Nothing says Sunday like a little light music. Take an alternative/country/indie break at N.B.K. and as the music soothes your soul you’ll be in the best possible headspace to reflect back on the weekend’s artful bounty.

Mindpirates – Party: Mindpirates Present Sunday Trip – 12-10pm

Sometimes after partying a little too hard, exactly what you need to re-enter the real world is just one more party. Mindpirates has invited all of us for a ”relaxed and meditative” psychedelic Sunday Fun-day with Fleißige Bienchen and Ears & Eyes. We’ll be there with rainbows and flowers on!

Walk: Use one of BAPS walking tours of a specific area to check out some of the galleries you’ve missed.

We all know that openings aren’t the best times to actually see art, so why not take advantage of this Sunday afternoon and stroll over to some of the gems Gallery Weekend has had to offer. Neighborhood by neighborhood, we’ve scoped out the best and ignored the rest. Take the BAPS tour and close out your weekend with some solid contemporary art, up close and personal.
