Digital Autism: The Artist Is Technically Present

Here’s an absofuckinglutely crazy story: artist Mia Florentine Weiss has spent a decade of her life traveling the world asking one simple yet profound question — What is your place of protection?

The most popular answer across the board: “My bed.”

For her four-day performance during Berlin’s popular Gallery Weekend, Weiss remained confined to a bed – in public – suffering from digital autism.  While physically present, her absence filled the room as she made herself unavailable to gallery visitors through the distance afforded by technological devices. The only means of getting to her: e-mails, text, and, with the support of Artparasites, this page that allowed for live conversations between the artist and the public. The result is captured in the following video. Enjoy!
