Thursday November 1st, 2012

Artconnect Berlin– “Pieces of Berlin” Opening – 8 pm

How well do you know your neighbors? Check out Artconnect’s latest exhibition to see recent works by photographer Florian Reischauer documenting the diverse inhabitants of the city. Here is your chance get up close and personal with your fellow Berliners.

Idrawalot – One Year Anniversary/Contest Winners Show – 7-11:30 pm

Happy birthday to Idrawalot! Stop by their birthday bash to see works by artists Krisanta Caguioa-Moennich, a loner Philipino artist who prefers sleeping over partying, Mariana Amaral Moreira, a Brazilian artist who wants to cause discomfort and embarrassment for viewers, and Maria Eliza Kouloudi, a Greek artist who studied stage and costume design. Come celebrate this thriving Berlin institution on their big day!

Berlinische Galerie –  Tue Greenfort Opening – 7 pm

Hop over to this jewel of a gallery in Kreuzberg to see the latest works by Tue Greenfort, a Danish artist now working in Berlin. Creating sculptures out of recycled materials and driving a bus fuelled by vegetable oil, he is a true environmentalist. Go green with Greenfort!

alexander levy gallery – “Virtual Reactor” Opening – 6-7 pm

The latest exhibition at the Levy Gallery, “Virtual Reactor”, will feature new works from Austrian artist Lorenz Estermann.  Estermann’s sculptures, photographs and paper works promise to envelop you with the addition of a new film, thereby creating a memorable multi-sensory experience. Let yourself be dazzled by Estermann’s ability to overturn art conventions and demonstrate his skill in multiple media.

Betahaus – “Destination Berlin” – 7 pm

Not sure how to handle Berlin’s mood swings? Attend “Destination Berlin” to learn how to make it here by listening to the tales of three successful migrant artists. Join in the casual conversation to get some insider tips that will help you become Destination Berlin’s next success story.

AJLart – Olaf Hajek Opening – 6-10 pm

Need some color in your life? Olaf Hajek’s fearless use of the color palette might do the trick. His expressive illustrations examining “magic realist” themes will be on display at AJLart in the exhibition “The King Has Lost His Crown.” This mystical works will certainly brighten your weekend.

Galerie Kuckei + Kuckei – “Rethinking Reality” – 7-9 pm

Most regard reality as universal and knowable. Yet, an exhibition of ten artists featured at Galerie Kuckei + Kuckei are “Rethinking Reality” by blending the real and the unreal in the fields of photography, sculpture, installation and drawing. See if you can join them in reconsidering reality.

NACHTUNDNEBEL Festival – 6 pm

Although summer festival season ended long ago, NACHTUNDNEBEL is here to revive your spirits. A large arts and culture festival with over 110 free events located in the vibrant cultural scene in northern Neukölln, the festival will feature wacky theatrical pieces, installations and artworks in all mediums. SAVVY Contemporary – “THE WHITE MALE COMPLEX, No.1” Opening – 7 pm

Tired of all of the PC-speak in today’s world? SAVVY Contemporary’s latest exhibition is throwing all of that correctness out of the window with its textual and visual focus on what it means to be a white heterosexual man. Voice your opinion on this edgy theme this Saturday.
