Here is a little riddle for you- what do you get when you put together circuit bending, a live iPhone performance, and themes like the Greek economy, “Hacktivism,” and BWPWAP? (Which means, “Back When Pluto Was a Planet,”) with dozens of chic and savvy tech geeks? Only the three-day techie paradise that is ReSource 002: Out of Place, Out of Time at the KUNSTRAUM Kreuzberg/ Bethanien of course! The tech-fun begins this Wednesday, August 22nd.
We now live in a world where, when life gives you questions, Google gives you answers. But what happens when even Google doesn’t have all the answers? It’s time to call in the technology experts. During this three-day event, information junkies will have their minds blown with a variety of discussions, installations, performances and workshops all designed with the new online, global generation in mind. The aim is to draw attention both to analogue processes of networking (networks out of time) and the idea of shifting cultural paradigms via network technologies (networks out of place). This is the second event put on by reSource Transmedial Culture Berlin and curated by Tatiana Bazzichelli.
Now if you are bit of a digital culture novice like me, and the majority of that sounded a bit like gobbley gook to you, hopefully this will help to clarify. Hackers like the group Anonymous have become the new activists, and the lines between art and technology have become increasingly blurred. That is what is meant by the theme of shifting cultural paradigms.
Which is exactly what makes this event such a worthwhile endeavor; anyone who has an interest in politics, technology, art, or culture and wants to learn more about the new arenas in which they operate stands to gain a lot from ReSource 002. With three days of events like discussions about imaginary networks, to a mobile device forensics workshop and a book launch and drinks, Resource 002: Out of Place, Out of Time, has something for everyone.
