The Power Of Inspiration And How To Make The Best Of It

Artwork by Carine Brancowitz

I’ve always felt that Inspiration was a crucial part of my being, a unique existence that I’ve had to let into my life to give it a meaning, a flavour. It followed me throughout my years of living but most of the time, I didn’t give it an ear. Most of the time, I ignored it and didn’t pay much attention because I thought it visited everyone else. I didn’t believe it could be a special gift brought especially for me from up above for some kind of reason that I’m still unaware of. And I’m writing this letter today as a recognition to its worth in my life, to give it some credit for the difference it brings about into me and into the universe at large.

Dear Inspiration,

Hope you’re doing great wherever you are. And wherever you are, I still feel you here with me, here inside of me. Your presence is always acknowledged in my heart and mind.

I don’t know why you chose me to write out what you had to say, or how or when God had opened my heart and ears to hear your beautiful quiet voice, transmitting magic into a world that has long lost faith in magic and miracles. But you’re here now, bringing back the faith and changing everything and everyone you touch.
Lately, you’ve been quite around talking to me, always in whispers, which is something I favor for I’m a fan of quietness. And I enjoy our silent conversations pretty much and try my best to constantly write them down as you persist. It’s something I like too because later on, whenever you’re wandering off or visiting someone else – I go back and re-read them in sweet remembrance.

Sometimes, I have to tell you, you drop by in inappropriate times; while I’m cooking, sleeping or playing with the kids. We still talk then but unfortunately, I wouldn’t be able to type our chats and when I don’t, I totally lose track of them. Shame on you! You, “Elusive Genius”, as Elizabeth Gilbert once called you, don’t you know I’m busy right now! But mind you, you’re always welcome. Visit me any time you want, and I’ll let you in. I might not respond or participate in the conversation but I’ll always let you in, I’ll always listen.
You have to know, I never get tired of your company. Don’t ever worry dear Inspiration; I wouldn’t shut you off or keep you out like before, NEVER.
How, when in your presence, I’m my best self! How, when you’re always that friend who understands me in my darkest hours and in my happiest, my faithful companion in this lonely world, who can make me feel truly cared for and remembered!

Did you know that your name’s origin is Latin, coming from the verb “inspirare” that means “to breathe into”! And hell! Yes, you do. You breathe life into my almost dying soul by your un-dying fire of creativity. You give me passion and liveliness which are things I rarely experience without you. You’re the only one capable of making me love myself and only through you can I see my uniqueness. You’re the map to my hidden jewels, and you always let me know that I deserve to have them and share them with the world. And although you know that all the credit eventually goes to me and you’re usually forgotten, you don’t really care; such a generous companion and a selfless friend!

To be honest, I can never imagine the world without you, Inspiration. It’d be so lame, dull and empty, for you’re the reason for everything beautiful and new. You’re the reason why we’re able to create and re-create. You’re the reason why we take risks and tread out of the limited into the unlimited, from the known into the unknown, from the familiar into the unfamiliar. If you were not there, the world would just stand still, nothing would ever happen because almost all our interesting doings are an actualization of your whispers.

And I’m telling you that it’s all YOU, it was never and will never be me; I’m just a channel through which you pass on your wisdom, and knowledge, into the universe.
I love you, dear Inspiration.
You add poetry to my world and dreams to my reality.

Love from: Inspired.
