Here he is, this man, looking
for a sad woman, who will,
look into his eyes,
and make him feel whole,
here he is, stumbling
and swearing, through
an old, worn down cigar pipe
on his young lips, with drooping
eyes and shoulders, oh poor soul
the weight of this cold world
is taking too much away
from him
and he is trying his best
to save himself, and looking
for a woman, that will share his grief
but, my dear man, she might carry it
but she’ll share her own too,
when she’ll hold you in her arms
and kiss your bitten lips.
And she thinks that you’ll be strong
to think of her, when you see
that other woman who’ll remind you
of the young man that you once
were, so simple and charming
with nothing in his past or present.
But she hopes that you’ll think
of her kind words, but oh poor woman
charms are lost in front of lust
and the devil’s in every one of us.

There she will sit, and rewind
your words and smiles
and try to read between the lines
but she was never clever,
in these kind of things,
No words will save them, as he walks
out of the house, out for a talk
with that other woman, he connected
with yesterday.
And this woman will seek out his own man,
and cry
as he’ll hold her and give her flowers
and they’ll still sleep together
but as soon as they got out of the house
they fell into different arms.

How ironic is life, when all we
want is to live, but keep finding
ways to die,
All we want is to love, and be
the one to be loved, but are too scared
to be bared
to others, to ourselves,
And I’ll sit here, on this seat and see
that man and woman, facing each other.

Oshin Ahlawat is a young poet and writer based in New Delhi, India. “I believe people who write are like tornados and cyclones. We wreck a lot of lives; for better or worse. It all depends on the people who read our work. They decide where the damage is going to be; the heart or the mind and whether it’s going to be for the good or for worse.
