Ori-gasmic Art

I think there is a lot to be said by the title of tonight’s event “5 Jahre Ori – wer hätte das gedacht” which translates to “Five years, who would have thought.” The art space/bar Ori Bar in Neukölln has a right to feel a sense of accomplishment after five years of events, supervised drinking, art and culture, politics, collective organizing, and assorted mayhem. Now they want to celebrate with the people who helped make Ori Bar such a success – all of Berlin’s art and culture lovers (that means you!).

Tonight’s festivities include a musical performace by Nahe, the first band ever to play at Ori Bar, and DJing by Levish & Marco Scalon whose music combines the fields of liquid techno, trip-hop, electronic synthpop, world music and dub, with acid jazz and funk. Sensory overload? But we haven’t even gotten to the art yet!

The exhibiting artists include Coka, Franziska Puhlmann, Friederike Vogel, Janina Schütz, Lisa Hain, Luise Steukart, m i r u, and Oliver Parzer. You can expect to see installations, photography, historical content and a special installation in the bathroom(Yes, you read that right, the bathroom).

Even if you have never been to Ori Bar, come out and join the celebration tonight because, in many ways, the success of these projects is an accomplishment for all Berliners. Come celebrate the fact that we live in such a diverse and open-minded cultural center where a few creative minds can get together and start gallery/artspace/ poetrylounge/coffeeshop/bar and make it a success. The fun begins tonight at 8pm in Neukölln and goes all night–and the good news is when you roll out of bed the next morning there is a vegan brunch waiting for you at Ori Sunday at 3pm!
