Modern Love Is a Checklist

Artwork by Govinda Govinda

Falling in love is easy,
Modern science now knows the perfect recipe,
To make strangers drown in intimacy,
Sit in a sterile room and answer thirty six questions,
Fuel your nerve synapses, rush of dopamine,
Make four minutes of eye contact,
Answer some of these questions with tact,
What would constitute your perfect day?
If a crystal ball could tell you truth, what would you like to know about today?
What is your treasured memory, name a few?

And when I see the checklist, all I want to do
Is travel back in time,
light years ago,
When the universe conspired,
And you felt like home,
We weren’t strangers,
And there were no black holes,
YOU were the answer
To all these questions,
But all I am left with now is,
“Why didn’t you stay?”
and a random stranger with a checklist,
Falling in love is easy.
