Here at BAPS we understand how hard it can be trawling through the large pile of weekend art party invites. We separate the wheat from the chaff so that you don’t have to, listing the best events this weekend, including the launch of the long awaited Robert Montgomery book documenting his amazing “Echoes of Voices in the High Towers” at Stattbad Wedding. If parties in pools aren’t your thing, there is also a free art walk around Neukölln or a very civilized networking brunch at Artconnect Berlin. Jump on in, artparasites!

STATTBAD – Finissage + Book Release – 8pm 

This is your last chance to catch one of Robert Montgomery’s beautiful light installations in the unique venue of Stattbad Wedding. To mark the end of the artist’s summer exhibition, “Echoes of Voices in the High Towers,” a book of Montgomery’s work funded entirely by crowd-funding is being launched this evening – a serious edition to any art enthusiasts’ coffee table.  

Galerie Hiltawsky -The Hilton Brothers exhibition opening night – 6pm 

Don your favourite wig and join eccentric New York photography duo Christopher Makos and Paul Solberg, a.k.a the Hilton Brothers, on the opening night of their latest exhibition “Andy Dandy and other works.” Exploring artistic and personal identity and how this can be altered, the exhibition will feature photography from three artistic identities: Makos, Solberg and the Hilton Brothers, including “Altered Image” portraits of Warhol and Solberg’s flower portraits.

 

Idrawalot – Exhibition with Mischief Champion – 7pm

Katrin Hagen, aka Mischief Champion, is an illustrator with the tagline “odd drawings to make you happy.” Focussing on celebrating and defusing those awkward moments that make you squirm, Mischief Champion is holding an exhibition “O, Mischief” to spread the joy of her humorous doodles and celebrate the upcoming launch of her book, also named “O, Mischief.”

Friday October 19th 2012 

 

Epicentro Artspace – I LIKE IT RAW – 7pm

No, this isn’t a sushi convention but the latest artistic endeavour by the “Freies Ausstellungskollektiv” (Free Exhibition Collective) RAW-tempel. Friedrichshain lovers take note – the exhibition will be accompanied by a program particularly devoted to cultural and political issues within Friedrichshain, along with the resident artists and art institutions. Definitely a top recommendation for the weekend!

 

km temporaer – Vernissage: “reflecting on networks/ artistic strategies using the web” – 7pm

Looking at opportunities for artistic activity in our increasingly digital society, this workshop by the group of young curators km temporaer will help participants be as creative online as they are offline. Focussing on digital networks and artistic strategies, there will be a number of participating artists to share their technical tidbits.

 

Galerie Crystal Ball – Kirsty Kross: Lost and perhaps even possibly found – 7pm

Australian artist Kirsty Kross is opening her exhibition with a performance described as “a conversation in German with the accent of the Sydney Bourgeoisie to the melody of Kylie Minogue”. If you’re anywhere near as curious as us to find out what this involves head to Galerie Crystal Ball from 7pm to find out. 

 

Art Grain – Art Tour Through Neukölln (in English) –  6:30pm 

Art Grain is a free art walk through the neighbourhood of Kornerkiez in Neukölln. Studios and galleries around the area will have extended opening hours and curators and artists will be on hand to answer any behind the scenes questions you might have. There is also an after party (naturally) from 10pm at Werkstadt

Artconnect Berlin – Networking Brunch with MINDPIRATES – 12 noon

Originally a networking breakfast, the creatives at Artconnect Berlin sensibly decided to make this event brunch instead, so there’s no excuse not to go have a milch kaffee with the friendliest people from Berlin’s art crowd. Starting at noon, the event goes on all afternoon and will host some special guests from artist group MINDPIRATES e.V. 

 

Institut Francais Berlin  – Stephane Couturier Exhibition Opening – 7pm 

As part of the European Month of Photography the Institut Francais Berlin are exhibiting the work of photographer Stephane Couturier. Documenting the beauty of urban scenes, Couturier takes all his photographs using a folding camera, see the results at the opening!
