I’d Like a BAGL, Please

This weekend is clearly the time to be in Berlin. As we reported earlier, this year’s Gallery Weekend with its 51 participating galleries is not to be missed. In case that isn’t enough to satisfy your ever-growing art needs, the Berlin Biennale is also scheduled to open this weekend. And wait… could it be possible? Could this city possibly carry on a third major art event on the same weekend? Well, ladies and gentlemen, yes, yes it is possible. And why not go beyond simply viewing mounted pictures or nicely positioned installations? The organizers behind Berlin Artists Going Live (BAGL) are tapping into just that.

Running from April 27th through May 1st, 42 different artists from all over Europe, Russia, and the USA will be presenting or performing their majestic skills live for all to see. A new program runs for each of the five days with a diverse mix of music, literature, sculpture, paint, film, and even a musical of Max & Moritz – there is certainly something for everyone. We’re particularly looking forward to the Brasche-duo/couple’s radiator sculpture and David Normal’s glowing art installations.

Catch a break, and some beats…

If you’re tired of walking from Kreuzberg to Charlottenburg and back to check out Gallery Weekend galleries, then meet BAGL in the middle. Located near Hackescher Markt, right near the Spree, BAGL is hard to miss. Their evening schedule boasts some hip-hop (Brobick), independent Norwegian rock (The Morningtons), or, for those who don’t have sensitive nerves, a lantern-led art tour which begins at 10pm Saturday and goes through the night (visitors will be given candles or lanterns to view the artwork in a pre-Thomas Edison way).

Lastly, we’d recommend you to bring in May 1st the Berlin-way with BAGL’s “Balkantronika.” See you on the dancefloor, artparasites
