I Wrote Poems In a Language I Didn’t Yet Speak

Artwork by Ava Moradi @avamoradiart

I take my coffee black because I like what it does to my body
I jump in the cold water, arms outstretched, because I also like what it does to my body
I breathe in the water that empties me of my breath
I watch the hazy skyline
Birds fluttering in absolute liberty but caution
The sky goes from dark to shades of blue and orange
Smell of sweet perfume and ripened fruits
I hold the peaches dewy, dripping sweet nectar into my mouth
I am slow dancing to my favorite song from 1992
I taste the raw intensity of living cheeks are blood red, flushing
The petals yellow blue
everything feels like heaven
And I think of you
I kill the thought of you. I fold it into my napkin poem
The very thought of not finding love embodies the true tragedy of all mankind
No one will ever make you feel like home when you think that you are only a half
Which states that half isn’t missing but the whole
“I feel whole when I am with you ”
I wrote it once in my love poem
But then again, I wrote too many love poems in a language I didn’t know yet how to speak.
I take my coffee black because I like what it does to my body
I lay on the grass because I like how it makes me feel
I drink lime green and I look for something in the dawn clouds
I dream me something beautiful
I swear when the rain drizzles on my body
It feels like hundreds of fluttering hummingbirds slowly opening and closing their wings
I like to put fresh cut flowers on my nightstand
I set the table with bread and grace
My knees bent like the folded corners of a page
In my veins, runs sweet wine
I recite the only verses I trust
I pray.
Not for the light
For I have a chest made of stained glass
And the light comes into my very heart in all possible colors, yellow, blue, violet
I found a love greater than all
And I will always go all the way north just to see the beautiful sunset by the sea
I found a love greater than all and I love what it does to me.
